The segment of TET Romania on Damuc River Valley between Damuc and Bicaz-Chei has been paved with asphalt. So for off-road fans it is more interesting to cross to the Bicăjel River Valley. One variant is the road between Dămuc and the village of Trei Fântâni and then from here further to Lacu Roșu. We’ll tell you about this route next.
Somewhere near the center of the Dămuc village you will have to look for the road that enters the valley of the Straja River. It’s right next to the bridge over this river and it’s heading west. At first we climb easily along the river on a relatively narrow valley. Then the valley opens and the road begins to climb steeper. We’ll reach a portion with a few serpentines that climb us close to the ridge of the hill. The road has recently been leveled, so apart from a few steeper portions, there will be no problems.
It follows a few very picturesque kilometers because the landscape is superb in all directions. We’ll know that we’ve reached the highest altitude when we pass some kind of monument made of wood. From here the road begins to descend to the Trei Fântâni Village. We’ll have a few portions through the forest but generally the road is through open areas.
Once in the valley, we’ll intersect with the road from the Bicăjel Valley and turn right towards Lacu Roșu.
From here the road is quite easy. After a few kilometers on the valley we will start climbing again. The area is a bit populated. There are many houses and as we approach Lacu Roșu there will be more and more housed on the side of the road.
Once we pass the Lacu Roșu Monastery the road begins to descend. We will briefly pass through a forest and then we will reach the national road 12C, the one that runs through the Gorge of Bicaz (https://2ride.eu/segment/s08-cheile-bicazului/ )
We loved this road, especially the segment between Dămuc and Trei Fântâni for the beautiful landscapes it offers. It’s quite easy to tackle even for the less experienced riders.
