I knew we were going to stay one day in the Homorod Baths, so I looked on the maps and the om satellite view to see what interesting roads are in the area. I saw that there is a road that starts near Băile Homorod, from Căpâlnița, goes to Zetea but in the middle of the distance it seems to disapear in the forest and then near Zetea it appears again on the map. So we decided to try this route to see if we can get to Zetea.
We came out of the asphalt at the entrance to Căpâlnița from the west. On the first part of the route the road is very good, without unevenness and well paved. Looks like it was recently remodeled. We will pass several intersections, but we keep the road that seems to be the main one. The landscape is very interesting, we cross a plateau located at 900m altitude with mixed vegetation of deciduous and coniferous trees and in the distance you can see the Harghita Mountains.
After several kilometers through an open area we will enter the forest. A few more kilometers and we will reach a T-junction where the paved road ends. We take the road on the left. Next is a section where the road is more of a path. Then we come out of the forest and the path slowly turns into a dirt road with cracks and bumps. Probably if it rains a lot, this segment will be quite difficult to travel.
We advance through a plateau area, with clumps of trees and green meadows. After a few kilometers the road begins to be paved again. The village of Zetea can already be seen in the valley on the right.
The last 2-3 kilometers we will descend quickly from 870m altitude to 550m. There are some parts with a slightly steeper slope and a lot of gravel, so the risk of slipping is high.
The road is quite easy to travel with a big adventure motorcycle, but if it has rained a lot recently, the unpaved part can become extremely difficult.
