We are already at the beginning of April and only a few days ago the weather has become beautiful enough for a pleasant bike ride. It had been raining and snowing all March, so my patience was already running high. I couldn’t wait for a weekend for a longer trip, so I decided to go out in the afternoon for a few hours in the fields near Bucharest.
I chose to start the route from the Bucharest Beltway, near Fort 10 which is part of the fortifications network of Bucharest. Initially I wanted to visit the fort but I changed my mind because the area was full of garbage.
Then I decided to ride to the village of Pițigaia where I saw that there is a ruined church and I thought it was a good excuse to get there.
So I took it on agricultural roads in the direction of Pițigaia village. The road is only made of dirt except for a few areas where there are some concrete slabs. If it has been raining recently, I do not recommend entering this road unless you have a light enduro motorcycle. Otherwise, due to the mud it will be very difficult to move forward. In the first part of the route the road is quite leveled. Then, as we approach Pițigaia, quite large cracks begin to appear and in some areas areas where the mud can persist for many days after it rained. You also pass two forests, and here the chances of encountering mud are even higher.
I went out on the asphalt on county road 100, between Poșta village and Pițigaia. From here you can go to the ruins of the church of St. Nicholas Pițigaia or to the place marked on Google Maps as “The Pit of Fundeni” where a small polygon has been arranged ad-hoc for off-road enthusiasts.
