OFF46 Cochirleni – Oltina

We exited the A2 motorway at Cernavoda and set out to follow the right bank of the Danube to the south as close as possible to the water’s edge. We took the county road 233 towards Rasova and at the first opportunity we came out of the asphalt to the right. It’s just that this first road ended in a military base. We went out on the asphalt again and tried the next dirt road a few kilometers before the village of Cochirleni.

Here it begins the route proposed by us. We will quickly climb a small hill then the road turns left and then to the right and we descend through a grove of bushes to the bank of the Danube. After about 2Km we go out for a few hundred meters again on the asphalt and then we return again on the bank of the Danube. After another 5-6 km we reach the asphalt again. We cross the village of Rasova and after a few kilometers we turn right on the dirt road on the dam.

Once you reach the end of this dam, on the left you can see a road that goes up the hill. You can take that road or you can follow the route proposed by us that goes a little closer to the Danube and then climbs and eenters the road you saw earlier. Watch out for this climb especially in early summer when the road is covered with fresh grass and can be very slippery.

The next part we will go on agricultural roads until we reach a forest where we come across a slightly steeper descent that takes us back to the Danube bank. We will advance right on the waterfront, then we will climb a dam and go on it to the north of the Dunăreni lake. From here we turn south and follow the road along the lake. Here the landscape becomes more spectacular, having on the right a high wall of earth.

Near the village of Viile, we intersect with the communal road no. 49 that will take us to the village of Oltina. This road is very well maintained, it is a gravel road and you can ride easily with 60-80Km/h.

80% of the route is on dirt roads so if it rains we recommend you wait until it dries a bit.
