Today we are going to Harghita County, in the Bodoc Mountains. It is a road on the mountain top that connects two passes: the Casin Pass and the Uzului Pass.

We start from DN11B, the road between Cozmeni and Târgul Secuiesc. We climb to the top of the Casin Pass at the Monument to the ‘48 Heroes. If we climb from Cozmeni, here we will turn left and enter the unpaved road that climbs through the forest. This first part through the forest is almost 600m long but can be difficult because it dries more slowly and can be slippery.

Also on the first part, both in the forest and the next 1-2 km, ruts form from the car wheels. I recommend staying on the middle part of the road because sometimes the side part narrows a lot and you will end up with your wheels in ruts.

From here, most of the route climbs and descends through the mountain peaks. The landscapes are gorgeous and you have views in all directions. There are also one or two climbs that can be problematic. You will have to be careful to follow the track on the GPS because there are a few intersections on the route. There are also many places where you can bypass worse sections of the road or where you can take shortcuts over a hill. In the middle of the route there is a sheepfold and usually the dogs stay in a place where the road is worse.

The road is not very rocky and there are also grassy areas. If it has rained recently, I do not recommend venturing out because there will probably be a lot of mud. However, you will find a few areas with mud and deep holes but most of the time these can be avoided.

Towards the end we reach the highest area of the route, at around 1100m altitude, then the descent to DJ123 – Pasul Uzului follows. There are 2 descent options, it seems that the one on the right is a little smoother.

As soon as the descent ends, we exit onto the asphalt. Sometimes there is mud right here at the exit so again approach carefully.
