If you are in the area of Nucșoara commune, at the foot of Făgărașului and you want a short walk on forest roads, you can go to Vidraru on the county road 703I.
It starts from the village of Brădet or better said from here the asphalt ends.
We proposed as a starting point the village of Gruiu because there is still a short unpaved segment with about seven hair pins and is relatively steep, this section is very good for a warm-up.
Once you have descended from the serpentines, you will cross the road 703I that follows the Vâlsan river valley. Here we will do the right. This segment is asphalt but after 2-3 km, the asphalt disappears. The valley narrows more and more and the road winds along the river between steep and rocky shores.
After about 5Km. you will see a light in front and soon you will enter Poienile Vâlsan. Here the asphalt begins again. After about a kilometer the road turns off. We’ll take a left onto a bridge. From here we climb a bit, there are two hairs, then the asphalt disappears again. Immediately we will enter the Plateau called Moliviș Plateau: a fairly flat and bordered on all sides with forested hills. We will bypass the plateau on the right. If you want, there is a road on the other side but that one is a little more rugged and goes up a little and after that it then goes down again.
After passing the Moliviș plateau, you will start the descent towards the shore of Lake Vidraru. There is only a slightly steeper area where there are a few hair pins, otherwise the road descends relatively smoothly.
The road is not difficult to ride because the surface of the road is quite good and without much gravel so it will be ok for beginners in offroad.
