This road segment is starting from the road to Stâna lui Burnei from Valea Rea (https://2ride.eu/segment/off08-valea-rea/) about 4 km from the exit of the village of Slatina. Here you will see a sign to the left towards Malița Peak.
The first about 9Km we climb slightly on the bank of a river. Then the road becomes a little narrower and a bit more rugged.
We pass from time to time from one bank to another of the river. One of the bridges probably collapsed at one time and now there is only a wooden bridge without parapets or other protections.
The surface of the road is from time to time passed by water torrents that flow from the slopes but the road is practicable.
About 19 km since we started, we will encounter the first hairpin. From here a more steep climb begins and in 3 km we will exit in the alpine hollow at around 1800 m above sea level. The ascent is not difficult at all and the road becomes better and better as we climb. Then we arrive at Curmătura Maliței. Here you will find a Y crossroad. The road on the right continues up to almost 2000m and stops at a sheepfold.
If you take it to the left, the road will continue for another 4.5 km until it reaches almost 2200m altitude. Then turns into a footpath. On this trail in 2-3 hours you can reach the Moldoveanu peak with its 2544 m.
This road is probably among the 2-3 roads in Romania that reach such a high altitude.
