Vadaș Pass, in the Baraolt Mountains, is located on county road 121A. It crosses the mountains from West to East between the villages of Aita Medie and Valea Crișului.
We started from Aita Medie. It is an unpaved road, quite well maintained. The surface of the road is macadam and is wide enough for two cars to pass each other without problems. In some places it is even wider.
Immediately after exiting the Aita Medie village, the asphalt ends and the road begins to climb slightly. Rare forest areas alternate with clearings and then after a few kilometers we will reach a kind of plateau with scattered trees. Here the perspective opens in all directions and the landscape is very beautiful, so it is a good place for a first stop.
Then the road enters the forest. We climb smoothly on wide and sometimes narrower curves until we come out again on a plateau located at about 900m altitude. Here is the maximum point of the Vadaș Pass at 954m altitude. It’s a good place for a new stop. After overcoming it we will enter the forest again and we will start the descent.
Until near the entrance to the village of Valea Crișului, we do not leave the forest and the road keeps its characteristics. It descends constantly and apart from a few curves, the rest is quite straight.
One last curve at 180 degrees, we leave the forest and in a few minutes we will enter the village.
The road is of low difficulty, it is just right for a leisurely ride or for beginners. It will probably be paved soon because it is quite busy and would probably be quite useful for the locals.
