The area between Zărnești, Poiana Mărului and Vulcan is full of villages with houses scattered on the top of the hills. For this reason there is a fairly developed road network. Most of them are unpaved but they are very picturesque and offer many viewpoints, especially towards the Piatra Craiului Mountains.

The first road we tried was the one that goes up to the Poiana Viselor pension (https://2ride.eu/segment/off02-poiana-viselor/). Now we will present you another road that crosses several hills from the Perșani Mountains. To enter the route proposed by us, in the center of Poiana Mărului village you will have to enter the communal road 8. Then after 2 km you will see on the right side a white warehouse where you will have to turn left. This is where the proposed route begins.

As soon as you enter this road, the climb will begin. There are a few hairpins, the slope is quite steep, but it doesn’t take long and you will reach the top. From now on you will ride among meadows, haystacks and a few scattered households. The landscape is beautiful and to the west you can admire the Piatra Craiului Mountains. You will also have to pay attention to navigation because there are many intersections and you can easily get off the route.

At about 4.5 km from the entrance on the route you reach an “Y” intersection where you have to take a left. If so far the road has been well paved, from here the situation changes because the surface of the road has no rocks so is likely for mud to form in case of rain. This is where the descent begins. First quite smoothly then the last few hundred meters a little steeper. Don’t be scared because the route passes through the household of some people or at least it seems so.

The route ends on the national road 73A. Just before the end, after the descent is over you will have to cross a small river. It’s narrow enough not to give you too much emotion.

If you are not in a hurry, you can try other roads in the area. We have tried a few and there are portions that are worth trying.
