OFF39 Cheile Vârghișului – Chirui

To enter this route you will leave the village of Vârghiș on the road leading to Cheile Vârghișului. There are about 10 km of narrow asphalt road, then just before reaching the tourist information center, the asphalt ends and we enter the macadam road. From the tourist information center you can access the path to Cheile Vârghișului so if you have time you can take a short walk. The canion is a few hundred meters away.

After leaving the information center, the road continues on the same valley, only now we enter the forest. The road winds for a few more kilometers along the valley, then the road turns sharply to the left and starts to climb. We will cross a hill and climb to almost 900m altitude but unfortunately there are few places where we can admire the surroundings because we are still in the forest.

A few kilometers after we started the descent we will reach a fork. Here we must continue on the road that descends, that is, the one on the left. After the intersection the road starts to descend a little steeper and the stones on the road become bigger so it will be a bit more difficult to ride.

We will leave the forest and reach a sunny valley where we come across a “T” intersection. We turn right. From now on, the next few kilometers the road is relatively horizontal. The interesting part is that we will go through the water a few times. First a very small stream, then a slightly larger one. The climax is when we cross paths with the river in this valley. In the crossing area, the river is about 10m wide and about 40-50cm deep depending on the rainfalls from the previous period.

Just before the end of the route we will have the opportunity to cross the river once again, but there is also a bridge here, so if you want you can stay dry.

The route ends once we reach the paved road DC29 in Chirui.

This segment of road is of low difficulty except for the ascent areas, or the crossing of the river. These can be a little intimidating for a novice rider, but with a little courage and determination they can pass with no problems.
