I did this route on a sunny February day when it was 13-15 degrees Celsius outside. It’s the kind of trail that’s good to ride early in the season when it’s still too cold to venture into the mountains or longer rides, or on days when you’re in the mood for a short offroad ride and only have a few hours to spare.
I decided from the beginning as a pretext that I wanted to get to the small church ruin at Pițigaia. I had seen it in a few pictures and thought it was picturesque the way it was set on a small hill by a lake.
I started in Frumușani, on the DN4. From there I took one of the many agricultural roads that cross these fields and go to the village of Pițigaia and the Tătaru pond. Depending on the time of year and agricultural works, the condition of these roads changes quite often. You will come out on an asphalted road that leads to the village of Pițigaia. From here it goes down a dirt road to the bank of a canal/marshes and you will see the ruins of the church and the small village cemetery in front of you on a small hill.
From the church, the road continues along the bank of this canal to the bank of Dâmbovița near the so-called pit from Fundeni. This is a place where off road enthusiasts gather on weekends to put their cars to the test.
The route proposed by us ends immediately after we cross the river Dâmbovița, in the village of Fundeni.
