It’s a beautiful day in February, a few days until spring officially comes, but it’s already spring outside. I decided to explore the banks of the Sabar River from the village of 1 Decembrie downstream to Argeș River. I left the asphalt somewhere near the OMV gas station but on the other side of the DN5 road.
At the beginning the road is paved with gravel but as soon as we leave the village, the gravel disappears and so is the road. The fields were recently plowed and they also plowed the road. On Google Maps, this road appears and it has a street name, so we decide to continue, being convinced that after a few kilometers we will find the road. And we’re not wrong. After about 1 km the plowed area ends and we come across a typical agricultural road with dirt and grass.
Somewhere on the right a few hundred meters away is the Sabar River, but between us and its shore are patches of forest. We reach a fork and decide to try the road that enters the forest. It’s beautiful but unfortunately the road disappears and we have to go back to the original route.
After a few hundred meters we reach the county road 401D, cross it and go out again on a dirt road. We are on the southern edge of the village of Vidra and after passing an area with solariums, we reach a sheepfold. Here we are chased by a pack of dogs so we decide to go around the farm.
The plan was to reach the railway bridge across the Sabar River and cross it. It’s just that the bridge is gone. Work is underway to rehabilitate the Bucharest-Giurgiu railway route and this bridge is to be rebuilt. That’s why we have to take it south along the railway embankment until we find a crossing.
After about 3 km we managed to pass east to the village of Campurelu.
Immediately after the village, we cross to the left bank of the river and enter a segment where the river has been systematized. We ride on a dike which, as we advance, becomes more and more overgrown with weeds. We decide to descend from the dike to the river bank where it seems easier to move forward. It’s just that a few kilometers down the road the road is clogged in a spillway perpendicular to our road. We turn around and go back up the embankment and at the first intersection we decide to take a different path because the embankment can no longer be advanced.
After a few kilometers on agricultural roads, we reach the river bank again in an area where Sabar river is guarded by a narrow strip of forest. Slowly the road seems to disapear and near the Argeș river we enter the forest. There is a good chance you will find mud and sludge here. Fortunately, the passage through the forest is only a few hundred meters long.
Once out of the forest we come to a fairly well-paved road. From here you can either go out on the asphalt to the left, or if you still have time and desire to ride, you can take the right on the bank of Argeș and in Goștinari you can enter our route OFF15 On the bank of Argeș
