This is a short but extremely spectacular route. We start from the national road 73A, that is from the road that connects Predeal, Râșnov and Șercaia. As soon as we leave the asphalt, we go down a little and we will have the first spectacular section, namely the crossing of a river. What is interesting is that the crossing is made along the river, that is, we enter the water then go about 20-30 m downstream and then come out on the other bank.
Further, we will go up a little until we come out on the route of the former railway that connected Brașov and Făgăraș. After a few hundred meters we reach the main attraction of this route, namely the concrete viaduct Pod’ Ilii. This is the first viaduct built in Romania with a reinforced concrete structure and was built in 1907-1908. It was used for railway traffic until 1940.
Crossing the viaduct is not for those who are afraid of heights because the bridge is quite narrow and no longer has a parapet and the distance to the bottom is approximately 25m. The bridge itself is also the only area on the route from where you can admire the surrounding landscapes.
We continue following the route of the former railway and after another kilometer we reach the second viaduct, namely Podu Negru. This is located in the forest and is hidden among the trees. The portion after the bridge is more rugged and often full of mud and water.
But don’t be scared because we will immediately come out to a much better and well-paved forest road.
From here on, the route is of low difficulty, we will travel on this road for another 4-5km to national road 1, near the Valea Homorod train station.
