OFF70 Gărâna – Lindenfeld – Poiana

Lindenfeld is an abandoned village located in the Semenic Mountains. The village is accessible via two routes: one is the road from Poiana, and the second is the road from Gărâna, well-known to everyone for its jazz festival.

We first attempted to ride this route in the spring of 2022, but just as we were leaving Gărâna, it started raining, so we were forced to give up.

Then, we returned in the summer. The trail begins at the end of Gărâna village where the asphalt finishes. You will know you are on the right path when, after a few hundred meters through the forest, you emerge on top of the hill next to a radio antenna. From here, you must follow the road that goes north, alongside the forest. After about 500m, you reach an intersection; one road goes to the right, and we will continue north along the forest for another kilometer. Up to this point, the road was relatively okay. There are many areas where deep ravines form, and areas where a blade has been used, and the soil is loose.

Immediately after entering the forest, the road almost disappears and turns into something that looks more like a trail. A fairly difficult descent follows through the trees; there are many ravines, roots, and dry leaves, and if it is wet, it is quite slippery. This section is the most difficult. A few climbing sections follow, some simpler, others more difficult. It depends heavily on how dry it is and how you manage to find your path among the roots and ditches.

You will know you have passed the hardest part when you exit the forest onto the ridge of a hill near the Nemanu Mare peak (alt. 1123m).

From here on, the road is all downhill. Just before entering the village there is a section where there is almost always quite a lot of mud, but being on a descent, it won’t be very difficult to pass.

From the village, the road becomes better, especially since it has been straightened and graveled because some houses have started to be rebuilt. Until Poiana we do not enter the forest again, and the road will seem good compared to what we have had so far. After a 4km descent, we enter a concreted road and soon arrive in Poiana village.

This route is quite difficult for a large and medium adventure motorcycle. We recommend not venturing alone because there will certainly be places where you will need help.
